Siklab Atleta Pilipinas Sports Foundation has added to the windfall Hidilyn Diaz will receive for winning the country’s first gold in the Summer Olympics.
The foundation headed by Phoenix Petroleum chairman Dennis Uy will give Diaz a cool P5-million along with a lifetime supply of fuel.
The addition pushes Diaz’s total incentives to P40.5-million — P10-million each from the government, the MVP Sports Foundation, and the San Miguel Corporation; P3-million from Mikee Romero, and P2.5-million from the Zamboanga City local government unit.
“It was our vision when we organized the foundation to rally the private sector to help our athletes in their quest for Olympic gold, and now we have our first gold,” said Uy, who is also the Presidential Adviser for Sports.
“I wish Hidilyn the best and we shall continue to support our Filipino athletes so we can have more golds in the future.”
Siklab executive director Raymond Zorilla added that the resources will be pooled from the foundation to provide athletes with training equipment, coaching services, exposure to international competitions, education, and a livelihood program.
“Let Hidilyn be an inspiration to other athletes. We laud her for her sacrifices and effort,” said Zorilla.
“The entire nation celebrates your triumph.”
Back in 2019, Uy’s Siklab gave an additional P2-million to Diaz to help in her build up to the Games.
