Shintarou buries 13 triples as E-Gilas advances to FIBA Esports semis

E-Gilas Pilipinas secured a semifinals berth after sweeping Group A of the FIBA Esports Open III Southeast Asia Conference.

The Playbook Esports-backed national team did not break a sweat crushing Maldives, 124-30, to top their group, late Friday evening.

E-Gilas dismantled Vietnam earlier in the day, 78-40, for a perfect 2-0 win-loss record.

Defense was the name of the game for the Philippines, holding the Maldives to single digits in all four periods.

E-Gilas also forced 21 turnovers from the Maldivians, converting to easy baskets on the fastbreak.

E-Gilas floor general Shintarou put up a performance for the ages, dropping 54 points on a hyper-efficient 20-of-22 shooting clip including 13 triples, to go along with 14 assists and five steals.

Small forward Custer also put on a show, producing 24 markers, eight dimes, three rebounds, and three steals.

Big man Izzo stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 17 boards, eight assists, four blocks, and two steals to his name. Rial and Ian also contributed 19 and 14 markers, respectively.

Bodungb was the only Maldives cager to reach double-digits in points with 11.

The best-of-three semifinals are scheduled tomorrow with the first game slated at 5:30 pm. The Philippines’ opponent will depend on the results of the games later tonight.
