Shelton, Bolden strike as Filipinas rout Bosnia in friendly

The Philippine Women’s National Football Team continued its preparations for the upcoming 2022 AFF Women’s Championship with a resounding 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, Thursday night in Slovenia.

Tara Shelton opened the scoring seven minutes into the match with a fantastic left-footed strike from outside the box. It was Shelton’s first international goal at the senior level.

Sarina Bolden doubled the Philippines’ cushion from close range at the 38th minute mark. The 25-year-old forward then sealed her brace at the 82nd minute with a powerful shot that reached the top corner of the goal.

The outcome was a great bounce back win for coach Alen Stajcic’s wards after their narrow 1-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland last Sunday. Aside from the goals, it was encouraging to see goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel maintain a clean sheet.

The Filipinas shall go up against Bosnia anew on Sunday. They will then commence their 2022 AFF Women’s Championship campaign against Australia on July 4, 2022, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Philippines XI: McDaniel (GK), Randle, Sawicki, Long, Bolden, Bugay, Frilles, Madarang, Quezada, Guillou, Shelton.

Bosnia and Herzegovina XI: Hasanbegovic (GK), Sliskovic, Milinkovic, Spasojevic, Aleksic, Nikolic ©, Kapetanovic, Medic, Krajaumovic, Jelcic, Sabanagic.
