Shaun Ildefonso is set to write a new chapter in his young basketball career after signing with defending MPBL champion Abra Solid North.
After spending the last four years with Rain or Shine in the PBA, the 6-foot-2 bruiser brings his professional experience to a rising Weavers core eager to defend its crown.
“Very excited, siyempre. It’s always a blessing and a great opportunity that many can only wish for—to play for a team that has a strong winning tradition,” he told Tiebreaker Times.
“Hopefully, I can help Abra with what I’ve learned and the experiences I’ve gained in the PBA over the past four to five years.”
But for Ildefonso, the move goes beyond chasing another championship—it carries a personal meaning.
With the Weavers, he reunites with his younger brother Dave, the reigning MPBL MVP.
The last time the two played together was back at National University, where their stint was cut short as the Bulldogs struggled before Dave eventually transferred to Ateneo and went on to win a championship.
Now, Shaun is hoping for a different ending—this time, together.
“Hopefully, we can win a championship together. That would be a really special moment, and definitely something to remember forever.”
Ildefonso also expressed gratitude to Rain or Shine for allowing him to make the move without complications, vowing to make them proud in Abra.
“Goals naman. Just really want to bring back my passion for competing. I really love to compete and win—whatever it may be, basketball or outside of it. Also, I want to repay the trust that Coach Yong (Garcia) has given me.”
Shaun and Abra will make their season debut tonight against Parañaque at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
