Shaq delos Santos wants Santiago sisters to focus on Japan stint first

Entering its busiest year, the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team will need all the help they can to gain footing in the 2019 Asian Seniors Women’s Championship and the Southeast Asian Games.

As the national team begins their preparations with a two-day tryout, the biggest absences were sisters Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat.

Both Jaja and Dindin are currently playing in the V.Premier League. Thee former is with the Ageo Medics, while the latter suits up for the Toray Arrows.

National Team head coach Shaq Delos Santos admits that he has yet to talk with either sister, since he wants them to focus on their respective club teams.

“Actually, wala pa kaming nagiging usap dahil ongoing ‘yung tournament nila. Hinahayaan muna namin sila matapos. I think by May tapos na ‘yung liga nila. Doon na lang namin sila makakausap,” Delos Santos said.

“Ang target namin is makalaro sila sa SEA Games kasi ‘yun ang pinaka-importante na liga natin.”

Besides the Asian Championship and SEA Games, the Philippines is also slated to join the 2019 Asian Women’s Club Championship in China.
