A former G League standout has thrown his name in the 2022 PBA Rookie Draft.
Sedrick Barefield has submitted all the necessary documents to the Philippine Basketball Association, just a few days before the deadline of entries.
The development was confirmed to Tiebreaker Times by Fil-Am Nation founder Cris Gopez.
“All the requirements have been submitted already,” Gopez said.
“Right now, we are basically hoping to find a way for him to be one of the high draft picks.”
Barefield needs no introduction to PBA teams.
Though the 25-year-old guard out of University of Utah went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, he dazzled with G League team Oklahoma Blue, norming 9.0 points, 1.42 rebounds, and 1.33 assists during the 2019-20 season.
Barefield then went to play for Lithuanian club Nevėžis Kėdainiai and Greek team Apollon Patras before having one more go-around with the Blue.
For Fil-Am Nation, helping process the documents of Barefield is a triumph for their program of bringing Fil-foreign talents back home.
“Very excited. This has been our mission to fulfill the dreams of many athletes,” said Gopez. “We are moving very fast in helping the athletes get their documents. Right now, it’s important to show the validation to help the country in helping process these documents.
“It’s not just for basketball but all sports. I think it’s something that we’ve mastered.“
Barefield will be arriving in the country days before the draft that is scheduled to happen on May 15.
