Trixie Lofranco secured the women’s anyo non-traditional open weapon title in the Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines after delivering a solid performance in the event’s finals on Tuesday at the Chroy Changvar Convention Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Lofranco also ensured that Team Pilipinas would claim its 53rd gold medal, fittingly obtained from its national sport, surpassing the golden medal haul achieved in the Hanoi Games last year.
Mary Allin Aldeguer dominated the event the last time arnis took place in the 2019 Games in Pampanga.
This marks the fifth gold medal in arnis, following the golds earned in the full-contact events, with two each from the live stick and the padded stick events.
Defending champion Crisamuel Delfin then followed it up with a much-awaited title defense on the men’s side for the country’s sixth gold from arnis.
These two Games titles came after golds in the full-contact events, two each from the live stick and the padded stick events.
Wrestler Alvin Lobreguito earlier matched the 52 golds collected from Hanoi with his gold in the men’s freestyle under-54 kg.
In Vietnam, the country bagged 52 golds, 70 silvers, and 104 bronzes.
