Jean Claude Saclag continues to deliver for Team Pilipinas.
The 28-year-old fighter out of Lubuagan, Kalinga scored a unanimous decision win over home bet San Rakim to score a three-peat in the -63.5 kilogram division of the Southeast Asian Games Kickboxing’s Low Kick event on Monday at Morodok Techo National Stadium’s Elephant Hall 1.
Saclag, who trains at Team Lakay, also won the same event in 2019 and 2021.
This is the Philippines’ 51st gold — just one shy of matching the country’s output in Vietnam last year.
Saclag received a bye in the first round before dominating Laos’ Dimitri Kyttanasilalack via a unanimous decision to advance to the final.
In the final, Saclag simply dazzled.
Fitzschel Fermato and Renalyn Dacquiel almost scored the Philippines’ second gold in the sport but fell to their Vietnamese foes.
Thi Nhi Le defeated Fermato in the final of the women’s light contact -50kg event while Dacquel lost to Thi Hang Nga Nguyen. Both were unanimous decision defeats.
Danny Kingad (full contact -60kg), Airon Lance Villamer (light kick -63kg), Kurt Lubrica (low kick -51kg), and Jomar Balanguie (low kick -57 kg) took bronzes.
