The Philippine national taekwondo team amassed silvers on the third day.
Dave Cea, Kirstie Alora, and Jessica Canabal all suffered defeats in their respective gold medal matches to collect three silver medals in the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian Games taekwondo competitions, Wednesday at the Tay Ho Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Cea, the erstwhile champion, absorbed a shocking beatdown from Cambodia’s Mithona Va in the gold medal final of the men’s under-74 kyorugi, 14-34.
The National University student-athlete earlier dominated Indonesia’s Osanando Naufal Khairudin, 24-11, in the semifinal to move to the chance of defending his title.
Former Olympian Alora, on her part, finished with the silver yet again, this time in the women’s under-73 kg after a tight loss to Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Huong, 8-10.
Canabal also ended with the silver in a similar close defeat against another hometown bet in Tran Thi Ahn Tuyet, 16-23, in the women’s under-53 kg.
