Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Carlo Paalam breezed past the bantamweight quarterfinals, as did Paul Julyfer Bascon in the light welterweight class of the men’s boxing competitions of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Monday at the Chroy Changvar Center Hall G.
Paalam, 24, won 5-0 over Malaysian Daelon, securing a place in the semifinals and a guaranteed bronze medal.
He faces Timor Leste’s Edegar Foe Quintas Da Silva for a chance at the gold medal on Thursday.
Bascon, on the other hand, defeated Vietnamese Thanh Dat Vu, 3-2, and will face Touch Davit of Cambodia in the semifinals.
Nesthy Petecio, also a silver medalist in Tokyo and a former world champion, won by referee stopped contest in the first round over Minavanh Oupaxa of Laos to advance to the women’s featherweight semifinals.
She will battle Vy Sreysros of Cambodia in the semifinals on Wednesday.
