SEA Games: Carino strikes at the death as Azkals salvage draw vs Cambodia

Dov Carino struck late to salvage a 1-1 draw for Philippine Under 22 Men’s National Team against host nation Cambodia in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games Tuesday night at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.

Carino, who represents Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP, scored a header in the 90+2 minute to earn Rob Gier’s side their first point in the tournament.

The Philippines is now in fourth place in Group A with one point after this draw and its opening-day loss to Indonesia.

Similar to their debut against the Indonesians, the Azkals U22 conceded a goal in the first half.

Cambodia’s Ky Rina broke the deadlock in the 25th minute much to the delight of the home support.

Despite the late heartbreak, the Cambodians rose to the top of Group A with four points behind one win and one draw.

The Azkals U22 will look to end their winless run by beating Timor Leste this Thursday at 8:00 PM. In contrast, Cambodia will seek its second win when it goes up against Myanmar this Sunday at 8:00 PM.

Philippines XI: Kammeraad (GK, C), Rublico, Amirul, Chung, Aldeguer, Gallantes, Reyes, Muens, Leddel, Bugas, Setters.

Cambodia XI: Reth Lyeng (GK), Chea Sokmeng, Taing Bunchhai, Chou Sinti, Ny Sokry, Lim Pisoth, Sieng Chanthea ©, Sin Sovannmakara, Ky Rina, Sophal Dimong, Phat Sokha.
