The Philippine Under-23 Men’s National Football Team saw its dream of qualifying for the semifinals of the 31st Southeast Asian Games come to a premature end after a 4-0 loss to Indonesia, Friday, at the Viet Tri Stadium in Vietnam.
Needing a win to keep their final four hopes alive, coach Norman Fegidero’s men saw themselves down by two goals, scoring at the 18th and 44th minutes, during the halftime break.
Indonesia, though, continued to dominate. The Filipinos then conceded a third goal in the 74th minute, which effectively ended the contest.
Goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad then had to pick the ball from the back of the net for the fourth time at the 85th minute as the Azkals U23’s SEA Games campaign came to a dismal end.
With the result, the Azkals U23 end their run with 4 points after four matches in Group A.
On the other hand, the Indonesians now have 6 points after three matches.
Philippines U23 XI: Kammeraad (GK), Kekkonen (C), Linares, Woods, Chung, Bedic, Bias, Gallantes, Mendoza, Rosquillo, Rontini.
