SEA Games: Azkals sent to brink of elimination after Timor Leste drubbing

The Philippine Under 22 Men’s National Football team suffered yet another defeat in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games with a 3-0 rout at the hands of Timor Leste, Thursday night, at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.

Rob Gier’s men now lie in fifth place in Group A with just one point behind one draw and two losses.

Timor Leste got its first taste of the lead in the 14th minute thanks to Mouzinho Barreto de Lima strike. Things then got worse for the Azkals U22 when Dennis Chung was dismissed in the 27th minute for getting two yellow cards.

Come the second half, Timor Leste completed the rout thanks to goals from Luis Figo Ribeiro and Elias Mesquita in the 55th and 90th minutes respectively.

Timor Leste rose to third place in the group with three points after one win and two defeats.

The Philippines will finish its campaign against Myanmar this Wednesday at 5:00 PM while Timor Leste will take on group leaders Indonesia this Sunday at 5:00 PM. Both matches will be held at the same venue.
