The whole Barangay Ginebra San Miguel was in extreme jubilation Friday night, when the face of their franchise for the longest time in Mark Caguioa entered the annals of PBA history by hitting 10,000 career points.
But nobody was more thrilled with it than Scottie Thompson.
Thompson was the one who fed Caguioa the ball that led to the feat-clinching jumper with 1:10 left to play. The assist was made after Thompson saw the former league Most Valuable Player left with enough space at the right elbow.
For some, it was like the present and the future connived for one shining moment.
“Sobrang napakasaya lalong-lalo na part ako ng history niya,” said the third-year guard moments after their 106-92 victory over the Road Warriors at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, where he made six rebounds and five assists.
“Lahat masaya talaga para kay Mark, tinutulungan din namin siya siyempre.”
Aside from the historic achievement that saw Caguioa become the 16th player in league history to enter the elite club, the Barangay is elated with the fact that they are currently on top of the 2018 Governors’ Cup team standings.
After Friday, the Gin Kings are now 6-1. And they are now in the midst of a three-game winning streak. A few more wins in their coming games would definitely help them be at such a favorable position come the quarterfinals.
“So far talaga maganda yung flow namin sa team. Even sa oractice maganda chemistry namin. Sana magtuloy-tuloy.”
