Kai Sotto will most likely be back in a few weeks.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has the 7-foot-3 Sotto in its list to join the team in its camps and tournaments this year.
Gilas Pilipinas will hold another camp at Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna from March 15 to April 15.
“He’s part of the list, so we just have to talk to him and reach out to him again,” said federation president Al Panlilio, who is also the governor of Meralco, during the PBA’s virtual press conference, Tuesday.
Sotto was just here last month, as he was supposed to join Gilas for the Doha window of the 2019 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers. FIBA then postponed the tournament to June.
The 18-year-old went back to the States, but was no longer allowed to rejoin Ignite for the 2021 G League season.
Plans are now in place for the Gilas cadets to enter the Calambubble anew in preparation for the third window and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Gilas looks to field an all-Cadets team for both tournaments.
“He’s welcome to join us and he’s very much a part of the pool.”
