Yuka Saso finally got to meet her idol Rory McIlroy.
During the warm-up for the 2021 US Open, the 2021 US Women’s Open champion got a chance to chat with the 2011 champ.
And she made sure to pick the mind of her childhood idol.
“How did you get to your level for a long time?” wondered the 19-year-old Filipina.
McIlroy’s answer came as a surprise for Saso.
“It’s boring, but doing the same thing over and over again,” the 32-year-old shared in a video posted by the LPGA.
“I would say, every practice session, everything you work on, write something else.”
McIlroy, who has four majors under his name, went on to explain what he meant by making a journal.
“This swing felt like my right hip was going through, whatever it is, you know what the feeling is. Then writing that feeling is a really good thing to do,” he explained.
To which Saso expressed, “That helps a lot.”
McIlroy, who is the only person Saso follows on Twitter, promised the eighth-ranked women’s golfer in the world that he will be keeping tabs on her.
“Well done again and play well the rest of the season. I’ll be watching and I’ll be praying.”
