Santiago sisters lift Foton to solo third after PLDT sweep

Towering sisters Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Jaja Santiago took turns in clobbering the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters, towing the Foton Tornadoes to a 25-21, 25-21, 25-15 rout, Thursday evening at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Dindin dropped 14 points, all from attacks, while Jaja scattered 13 points built on 10 kills, two blocks, and an ace to carry Foton to solo third with a 6-3 slate.

“Satisfied pero marami pa kaming kailangan gawin,” said head coach Aaron Velez even if the match only lasted for one hour and 24 minutes.

“Hindi kami pwedeng makuntento kasi ngayon may mga bagay kaming winoworkout as a group kumbaga kailangan mas convincing pa parati yung dapat naming gagawin,” he continued.

The Tornadoes proved to be too much for the skidding Power Hitters, who dropped their fifth straight game to fall to sixth, outspiking them 48 to 35.

Elaine Kasilag added 10 points while pint-sized setter Gyzelle Sy tossed 17 excellent sets to go along with 12 digs and four markers.

Grethcel Soltones led PLDT with 13 points while Jerrili Malabanan chipped in 12.

Foton hopes to sustain its momentum when it faces the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers on Saturday, July 20 at the Filoil Flying V Centre. PLDT, on the other hand, looks to snap out of its skid when it faces the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors on Tuesday, July 23 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
