Familiarity will be the key for the Bulacan Kuyas heading into the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup.
Coach Britt Reroma made sure to put together a core familiar with each other, since the game of 3×3 basketball is all about timing and chemistry.
Leading the Kuyas in the country’s first 3×3 basketball league are former San Beda Red Cubs James Martinez, Jay-R Taganas, Ogie Menor, and Francis Abarcar.
“Yung apat na yan, matagal ng magkakasama. Since high school pa lang, and even after college, magtea-teammates sila,” said Reroma, himself a San Beda alumnus. “Madali na sa amin ang mag-mesh.”
Spicing up Bulacan’s squad are two versatile players.
Bulacan signed six-foot-two swingman Embons Bonleon and 6-foot-2 utility forward Gwyne Capacio just a week before opening hostilities ensue on Saturday, February 16, at the SM Megamall Events Center.
“Si Embons, talagang 3×3 talaga ang laro niya since he was part of the Philippine team during the ASEAN School Games,” shared Reroma.
“Si Gwyne naman, alam naman nating masipag yan. Bagay talaga sa 3×3,” he added.
Having a complete lineup is one thing. Come the President’s Cup, Reroma is looking for the Kuyas to give a good fight.
“Siyempre, malalaki ang kalaban namin dito. Pero sa tingin ko lalaban kami hanggang dulo.”
