Sam Tranquilan hailed as UE athlete of the year

For leading University of the East to its eighth straight championships in the UAAP Men’s Fencing Championships, Sam Tranquilan was hailed as the school’s athlete of the year, Thursday evening.

In his final year, the 21-year-old capped his spectacular collegiate career with the Most Valuable Player plum — his third overall.

Tranquilan won four golds and two silvers in the recent UAAP season.

Besides his collegiate exploits, Tranquilan was also part of the Philippine Men’s National Fencing Team that competed in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Tranquilan is about to graduate with a degree in UE’s Tourism and Hospitality Management college.

The UE Dawn first reported the development.
