Rain or Shine rookie Franky Johnson has not been on the team’s bench in its last three games.
And it’s because of something that was beyond his and the Elasto Painters’ control.
Last Monday, Johnson, 27, experienced a slight fever last Monday. The team asked him to leave the “semi-bubble” immediately for precaution.
“Was asked to leave the bubble for health and safety protocol reasons.
“I was having a few symptoms, and my team didn’t want to take a chance on me getting worse and prioritized putting my health first,” the Filipino-American guard out of Warner Pacific told Tiebreaker Times.
Johnson tested negative for COVID-19, but blood was detected in his urinalysis test.
As of the moment, Johnson, who is averaging 14.1 minutes per game in three games played, is doing okay. He is just waiting for the go-signal to return to Pampanga.
“Rain or Shine wanted to be safe and wanted me to heal up first and have all the symptoms cleared before I’m able to re-enter the semi-bubble,” he said.
“Hopefully, soon is what my team is saying if everything is well with me,” he continued with regards to going back.
“They want me back.”
It’s another challenge for Johnson, who was only called back to Rain or Shine’s 5-on-5 team after being initially put in their 3×3 squad.
But for him, it’s something that he embraces fully.
“I will be good as always. I love challenges and overcoming them.”
