It was no secret to those who follow newly-minted US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso that the young Filpino golfer idolized one of the powerful golfers in the scene, Rory McIlroy.
So much that people always compare the Saso swing to the said four-time Majors winner, even if they haven’t met each other personally.
The 19-year-old standout started to emulate the Northern Irishman’s swing seven years ago after watching several of the latter’s videos on YouTube.
When asked what exactly she admires about his swing, she just replied, “Everything. I like everything.”
And before all this comeback and this milestone to her young professional career, Saso even got a mention from her idol on Instagram, cheering on her to win the title.
“I saw it this morning, and I was like, ohhh!’” she said. “I should have reposted it but I was so busy this morning, so I’ll do it later. I felt really happy.
“Rory mentioned me on Instagram and said, ‘Get that trophy.’ And I did! So thank you, Rory.”
McIlroy would tweet his reply thereafter.
Everyone’s going to be watching Yuka Saso swing videos on YouTube now. Congratulations! 🏆 https://t.co/oyKoFHgjz1
