Rookie Jjay Alejandro showed what he can do when given the opportunity, Sunday evening.
In his Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ clash with the TNT KaTropa in Antipolo City, the neophyte out of National University was named as a starter by head coach Caloy Garcia, and he did not disappoint as he produced 11 points.
Alejandro made eight of his output during the Elasto Painters’ spirited 17-4 scoring spree in the final quarter, which chopped down the KaTropa’s huge 17-point advantage to just four, 91-95, with 32.6 seconds left to play.
His efforts, however, went for naught as their fightback fell short, 92-100.
Still, it had been a commendable performance for Alejandro, as it is also the first-ever points of his pro career. And for the former PBA D-Leaguer, his outing had just been his way of repaying the trust given to him by Garcia.
“I’m just happy na may tiwala sa’kin si coach. Whatever it takes susuklian ko lang yung tiwala niya sa’kin,” the 23-year-old said.
Given his production, Alejandro might soon be a part of Rain or Shine’s rotation. But the one-time UAAP gold medalist said that doesn’t have any problem if he will be used or not, as long as the Elasto Painters rack up wins.
“Sa’kin naman as long as we win, walang problema kung gamitin ako ni coach or hindi. Basta I’ll give my one hundred percent.”
