RJ Abarrientos, Ulsan Hyundai mutually part ways

After just one season, Ulsan Hyundai Mobis and RJ Abarrientos have mutually parted ways.

The Phoebus have terminated the remaining two years in Abarrientos’ contract.

In a press release by Mobis, the team said that “as Abarrientos requested a transfer to another league, we mutually terminated the contract through an internal decision.”

In his rookie season, the Far Eastern University product averaged 13.29 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.77 assists, and 1.34 steals in 56 games played.

Abarrientos won Rookie of the Year honors.

The 5-foot-11 guard led the Mobis to a quarterfinals finish in the 2023 KBL playoffs before bowing to Goyang.

During the second week of June, all Asian Quota players were called back up by their respective teams to prepare for the upcoming season.

However, Abarrientos only arrived in Korea early this week.

The Mobis also held a private tryout two weeks ago, looking for a potential replacement for Abarrientos.

Now, they need to register the player they chose as the deadline was set on June 30.

Abarrientos is set to move to the B.League, according to the report.
