The 92nd Season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association is set to open with a bang!
As per NCAA tradition, the champion of the past season opens their campaign against the season’s hosts. With that, NCAA Season 92 hosts San Beda College is set to square-off against rivals and defending NCAA Seniors Basketball champions Colegio de San Juan de Letran on opening day.
The opening of the 92nd Season of the Grand Old League is slated to happen on Saturday, June 25 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Moreover, title contenders Jose Rizal University and Mapua Institute of Technology square-off in the first game of that playdate.
“It’s going to be an exciting opening,” said newly-installed Management Committee chairman Jose Mari Lacson of San Beda College. Moreover, he bared that multi-awarded director Roxanne Lapus is set to direct the opening ceremonies of the event.
In other changes that will come to the league, it was also announced during the turnover ceremonies held at the Pearl Hotel in Manila City that the NCAA Basketball Tournament will have a four playing days a week schedule. Elimination round games will be played every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mostly at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City. Moreover, Monday games are exclusive for the league’s Juniors Basketball tournament.
Another rule change is the complete removal of the “hacking” scheme. Players who foul an opposing player who does not have possession of the ball this coming season will result to a technical foul and ball possession for the aggravated team. According to San Beda officials, this was a formulated answer to help quicken the pace of the game.
Finally, the board is set to meet on April 20 to discuss further changes, including the possible appointment of Andy Jao as tournament commissioner for Season 92.
“As we continue to improve, we will not rest on making the NCAA better,” San Beda Rector-President and NCAA president Fr. Aloysius Ma. Maranon, OSB said.
