Rhaffy Octobre, Cebu stave off Quezon City to keep close with Bicol


Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol pumped life to its playoff chances after trumping Quezon City-WEMSAP, 95-89, in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Season, Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.

The victory enabled the Sharks to improve to 11-12, good for the ninth spot, just behind eight-running Bicol-LCC Stores at 13-12.

Up by just six in the fourth frame, 82-76, Cebu unloaded an 11-4 blitz, capped by Rhaffy Octobre’s triple and a jumper with 2:16 on the clock to put the game out of reach, 93-80.

“Sinabihan ko lang yung players ko nung halftime na huwag maging kumpyansa, mabuti naman nakarecover sila nung fourth quarter nung humabol na ang Quezon City,” Sharks head coach Noynoy Falcasantos said.

Will McAloney and Fletcher Galvez finished with identical 17-point, five-rebound statlines for Cebu.

Joco Tayongtong uncorked 23 points, including 10 freebies for Quezon City, Dahrrel Caranguian tallied 16 markers, while Mark Olayon and Clark Derige combined for 27.

The Capitals slid to 11th place in the North division at 10-16.
