Reyland Torres cleared to play for Game 3 of UAAP Finals

University of the Philippines defender Reyland Torres will not be suspended for Game 3 of the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Men’s Basketball Finals, despite accumulating two unsportsmanlike fouls during the Fighting Maroons’ game against the De La Salle Green Archers last Wednesday.

Torres, who is averaging 4.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in the Finals series, was called for two unsportsmanlike fouls during the game.

The first occurred with 5:33 remaining in the third quarter, when Torres made excessive, hard contact with EJ Gollena in an attempt to play the ball or defend against his opponent.

This foul was classified as a UF category 2.

The second unsportsmanlike foul came with 2:58 left in the game.

Torres, attempting to prevent a fast break, committed an illegal contact from behind on a De La Salle player advancing toward the basket.

This was deemed a UF category 4, which is classified as illegal contact caused by a player from behind or laterally on an opponent who is progressing toward the basket with no other defenders between them.

Despite the two unsportsmanlike fouls, Torres will be eligible to play in Game 3, due to the nature of the second foul, which allows him to avoid suspension.

This ruling is consistent with the earlier case of Adamson’s Jhon Calisay, who faced similar circumstances back on November 23, 2024.

With Torres cleared to play, UP will have a full lineup for the decisive Game 3.
