A day before the University of the East Red Warrior’s game versus Adamson, Rey Suerte surprised his teammates.
“Nagpakain lang, nagpa-pizza sa mga teammates,” Suerte shared.
The one-and-done Red Warrior was celebrating his 25th birthday.
And Suerte made sure that his celebration would not stop there. He led the Red Warriors to an 80-74 win over the Soaring Falcons to keep UE on pace with the top four teams in the UAAP.
The 6-foot-3 swingman bounced back from his slump, dropping 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
Moreover, his split on the stripe with 13.9 ticks left staved off Adamson’s hijack attempt to secure their third win.
Safe to say, Suerte would not be denied on his day.
“Oo siyempre, araw ko. Araw ko, [so] swinerte ulit.”
UE have gained momentum after starting their season with a 1-5 record. The Red Warriors have now racked up wins over the NU Bulldogs and now Adamson.
According to Suerte, no one can sleep on them now since UE are starting to pick up steam.
“Ginagawa naming motivation yun para tumaas yung morale namin. Kasi kung magpapa-apekto kami sa mga ganyang mga sinasabi ng mga tao, bababa lang yung morale namin,” he said.
“Pasok sa tenga, labas sa kabilang tenga.”
With UE back in the thick of things, Suerte has one birthday wish.
“Sana magtuluy-tuloy pa yung mga panalo namin.”
