The Philippines’ bid for its first boxing medal at the 2026 Asian Games took a blow after Junmilardo Ogayre fell to reigning Olympic champion Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan in the men’s 60kg quarterfinals on Sunday at the Nishio Gymnasium.
Ogayre struggled to keep pace with the seasoned Uzbek, who dictated the fight from start to finish to secure a unanimous decision victory.
All five judges scored the bout 30-26 in favor of Khalokov, giving the former world champion a clean sweep across the three rounds.
Khalokov’s combination of accuracy, timing, and ring control kept Ogayre from mounting a sustained challenge.
The Filipino was also issued a warning in the second round.
The defeat ended Ogayre’s campaign and denied the Philippines a guaranteed bronze medal, which would have been secured with a victory in the quarterfinals.
With Ogayre out of the medal race, the Philippines now turns to its two Olympic standouts, Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, as the country’s remaining hopes in Asian Games boxing.
