Red-hot Lady Spikers devour error-prone Lady Pirates

The San Beda College Lady Red Spikers capitalized on Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates’ off-colored play and dominated the latter in three sets, 29-27, 25-13, 25-14, to remain unblemished in the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Volleyball tournament, Monday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The two school duked it out in the opening set, but it is apparent that Lyceum was having problems on the first ball: service reception and service.

With better conversion off transition plays, the Bedans finished the grueling opener to their advantage.

It was all Lady Red Spikers from there, pouncing on the opponents’ faulty reception rally in and rally out.

San Beda only produced 26 attacks off 89 attempts, but the Lady Pirates were more wasteful, finishing just 19 of the 91 spike tries. Moreover, most of these hits turned into errors.

Lyceum amassed 41 miscues in the short three-setter match, even making it more difficult for them to even stand a chance against San Beda.

Cesca Racraquin led the pride both in offense and in defense with 11 points, seven digs, and five excellent receptions. Team skipper Becca Cuevas aided 23 of the 26 San Beda attacks.

Cherilyn Sindayen and Christine Miralles paced the Lady Pirates with 6 markers each.

Cuevas shared that in order to pull off the win, San Beda just played more consistently. “Mininimize lang namin yun errors namin. Mas tinibayan namin yung depensa at yung opensa,” she said.

The captain also said that they still have so much to work on especially in their net defense and quick plays. “Yung sa blocking namin. Especially ako, maliit, tsaka dun sa wings. Tapos hindi ko kasi masyadong nabibigyan yung gitna, so yun ang aayusin din namin,” she added.
