RC Cola-Army maintains top billing, cruises past Generika

Keeping pace with the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers right before their titanic clash on Saturday, the RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers made swift work of the young Generika Lifesavers, 25-13, 27-25, 25-19, at the Batangas Sports Coliseum.

Army’s Golden Ticket holders Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Daquis led the way with 13 points apiece. No Lifesaver managed double-digit scoring, with Chloe Cortez managing just nine markers.

“Medyo erratic ‘yung sumabay kami dun sa tempo ng laro ni Generika hindi namin na-control ‘yung error namin pero ‘yung puntos nila especially nung first set naging effective nung first set so na-dismantle namin ‘yung attack ni Generika,” said Army head coach Kungfu Reyes.

The Lady Troopers faced resistance only in the second set, as the first had quickly turned into a romp. Army had a 24-20 lead in the second frame when Shaya Adorador scored and served Generika all the way to a 24-all tie. Rachel Daquis ticked off a smash to give Army set point, but both teams then traded service errors. Daquis then served a clutch ace to end the set and give Army a 2-0 lead.

Army slowly built on their lead in the third frame until they nabbed a 20-12 lead. Army then opted to sub on most of their bench unit to finish off the Lifesavers.

“Kung ano ‘yung kalakasan namin ‘yun ‘yung naging kahinaan namin parang ganun ‘yung nangyari,” Reyes added. “Ganun talaga siguro kailangan pa i-enhance ‘yung ibang factors sa ensayo namin.”

Pegged as potentially the best match of the season, Army (6-0) are putting no pressure on their match against fellow league leaders F2 Logistics (6-0).

“Kahit sino naman ang magiging kalaban namin, one game at a time lang kami, pero paghahandaan namin ang F2 Logistics kasi nakakachallenge kasi mas bata, mas explosive gumalaw, mas dynamic, doon kami kukuha ng advantage sa pagiging bata nila,” said Reyes.

The teams will clash on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Scores:

RC Cola (3) – Daquis 13, Gonzaga 13, De Leon 5, Carolino 3, Bunag 3, Gonzales 3, Bautista 1, Sabas 1, Nunag 0, Torres (L), Agno (L)
