Rain or Shine has agreed to trade Rey Nambatac to Blackwater in exchange for two future first-round draft picks.
The Elasto Painters will be acquiring the Bossing’s picks for the upcoming season and the 50th season, marking the end of Nambatac’s six-season stint with Rain or Shine.
Nambatac was initially selected first overall by Rain or Shine in 2017 after a standout NCAA career with Letran.
He then played a pivotal role during the tenures of Caloy Garcia, Chris Gavina, and Yeng Guiao.
He contributed significantly to Rain or Shine’s last two semifinal appearances in the 2019 PBA season during the Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup.
In June, Nambatac received a two-year contract extension from the Elasto Painters’ management.
However, the recent PBA Commissioner’s Cup witnessed fluctuations in Nambatac’s playing time.
That resulted in him averaging just 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
Nambatac only started three games last conference, resulting in him asking for a trade in the break.
The trade comes as the latest move by Blackwater, following their recent signing of James Yap to a deal last week.
