Rain or Shine grants Adrian Wong release

Rain or Shine will not renew Adrian Wong.

Titan Management Group took to Instagram to express gratitude to the Elasto Painters for giving the third-year winger the opportunity to play in the Philippine Basketball Association.

“Shoutout to Rain or Shine for drafting Adrian Wong and being given an opportunity to showcase his first two years in the league,” the caption wrote, along with an art card of Wong that has ‘on to the next one’ written on it.

Wong was the fifth overall pick by Rain or Shine in the regular round of the 2019 Rookie Draft. He was one of four selections who signed later on, the others being Clint Doliguez, Prince Rivero, and college teammate Vince Tolentino.

He inked a two-year deal in January 2020.

The Ateneo product saw action in all of the Elasto Painters’ 12 games in his maiden conference in the league that is the 2020 Philippine Cup. There, he averaged 4.6 points to help his side reach the quarterfinals.

It was also in that tourney where he registered his PBA career-high. He tallied 15 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, as Rain or Shine escaped NorthPort back on October 18, 2020 in one of the first games of the Clark bubble.

Wong would go on to tie his personal record in the next All-Filipino cage wars. He finished as one of his team’s top scorers in a come-from-behind victory over Terrafirma last August 1, 2021 at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The 6-foot-3 winger had played for a total of three conferences with the Painters. He suited up in all of their five games in the stalled 2021-22 Governors’ Cup, with norms of 1.6 markers.

Though technically a restricted free agent, the Elasto Painters have unconditionally released him, according to team consultant Caloy Garcia.

“We won’t extend his contract so we will release him already,” said Garcia.

As to where he’s headed remains unknown.

“Big news coming soon,” TMG wrote.
