Rain or Shine handed an incomplete Hong Kong Eastern its first loss following a convincing 99-81 victory to break into the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup winners’ circle on Wednesday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Elasto Painters took control of the game early before pulling away in the fourth quarter to chalk up win no. 1 in the conference for a solid bounce-back after absorbing a 121-111 defeat at the hands of Meralco in their opener.
Deon Thompson turned in a solid debut as he finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks to set the pace for RoS.
Santi Santillan finished with 18 points, spiked by three triples, and five rebounds. Keith Datu and Caelan Tiongson chipped in 10 markers each.
Leading Eastern, on the other hand, was Cameron Clark with 30 points and 12 rebounds as he carried much of the load in a game where they missed lead guard Glen Yang because of passport issues.
