In a battle of also-ran squads, Farm Fresh broke its five-game skid after sweeping sister team Strong Group, 25-10, 25-15, 25-22, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Foxies hardly broke a sweat in the first two sets but faced resistance from the Athletics in the third.
They eventually recovered to secure the victory and improve their record to 3-7 at the eighth spot.
“Thankfully po nakuha po ulit namin yung win after consecutive losses po namin sa mga past few games po namin. Maganda po ito na paghuhugutan namin para sa last game namin sa Tuesday, which is Choco Mucho,” said outside hitter Trisha Tubu.
SGA tried to force a fourth set after Mary Joy Onofre scored off a quick attack to put the Athletics ahead, 22-21, in the third.
But then Pia Ildefonso and Caitlyn Viray stepped up for the Foxies, scoring two points each in a 4-0 finishing kick.
“Siguro yung maglaro kami nang maayos, regardless kung sino yung kalaban namin kailangan parehas lang yung mindset namin. Dapat laban kami hanggang matapos yung game,” said Viray.
Tubu top scored for Farm Fresh with a game-high 13 points.
Meanwhile, Viray added 11 points on eight attacks, two blocks, and one service ace in the 73-minute match.
Angelica Legacion started her first game this conference and tossed 12 excellent sets in the win.
The Foxies look to finish the conference on a high note against the league-leading Choco Mucho on Tuesday, 6:00 PM at the Philsports Arena.
Meanwhile, the Athletics dropped their 10th consecutive game in as many outings to remain at the last spot.
No player reached twin digits for SGA with Souzan Raslan leading the way with nine points. Dolly Versoza and Sheeka Espinosa scored six points each in the loss.
The Athletics will try to get its first win in its last game against Akari on Saturday, 6:00 PM at the Philsports Arena.
