PVL: Ria Meneses returns as Cignal pushes Army to brink of elimination

Cignal returned to the win column and pushed United Auctioneers Inc-Army to the brink of elimination after three sets, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19, in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, Thursday.

American reinforcement Tai Bierria paced the HD Spikers with 17 points off 16 attacks to go along with 12 excellent digs while Rachel Daquis and Ces Molina contributed 10 points each in the win that helped the team move to 2-2.

Ria Meneses scored seven points in her return after missing Cignal’s first three games — two of which they lost — due to knee issues while Rose Doria had seven as well.

“Unang una syempre thank you kay Lord for another win dito sa team namin and yung opportunity and chance namin na makabalik ulit doon sa lahat ng pinaghihirapan namin,” said HD Spikers head coach Shaq delos Santos.

“Medyo magandang chance ulit and then hopefully yun nga sabi namin magwork hard pa kami every training, yung practices namin, yung inaaral namin and yung committment talaga namin bibigay talaga namin kasi syempre ibang iba na yung labanan ngayon, ‘di ka talagang pwede magrelax, magpetiks sa mga makakalaban mo so ayun, very thankful and happy,” he added.

Cignal pulled away early in the third set after Meneses, Doria, and Molina broke a 9-all deadlock and ignited a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 advantage. The Lady Troopers managed to cut the lead to three twice later on but could not overcome the HD Spikers.

Bierria delivered a backrow attack to pull Cignal at match point, 24-19, before Jane Gonzales committed a net violation which ended the game.
