PVL: Petro Gazz sinks F2 Logistics, completes semis cast

Petro Gazz punched its ticket to the semifinals after eliminating F2 Logistics, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19 in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference quarterfinals at the FilOil Flying V Centre, Tuesday night.

Jonah Sabete provided the spark in the fourth frame, scoring three points in a 4-1 blitz that gave the Angels a 19-14 advantage.

“Very, very happy kasi mahirap naman kung kami lang yung kaisa isang team na matatalo na may twice-to-beat,” said Angels head coach Jerry Yee. “Very happy kasi itong si Jonah nag respond. Move on kami to the next level.”

The Cargo Movers sliced the lead to three but consecutive hits from Myla Pablo and Grethcel Soltones restored the lead to five, 21-16.

Aby Maraño stopped the bleeding for F2 with a running attack, but Soltones answered right back to keep the cushion at five.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas put Petro Gazz at match-point. Ara Galang’s attack then went long which ended the match.

Soltones dropped 22 points on 20 attacks and two aces while Sabete delivered 18 points for the Angels.

Maizo-Pontillas also recorded 18 points to go along with 23 excellent digs while Cienne Cruz and Bang Pineda joined hands on the defensive end with 18 excellent receptions and 16 excellent digs, respectively.
