Chery Tiggo dealt Capital1 a rude welcome to the Premier Volleyball League, scoring a 25-6, 25-15, 25-15 rout for a dominant start in the 2024 All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Crossovers announced early in the game that they meant business and there was no letdown with a 25-6 first frame.
In the next two sets, the Solar Spikers were able to keep in step in the beginning but Chery Tiggo proved to be more cohesive down the stretch, still ending up on top by 10 points in each stanza.
“Well executed naman yung set play ni Joyme (Cagande). We are happy na nanalo and we’re also happy because nandiyan na si Alina (Bicar), actually nandito na yung Chery na hinihintay namin,” said Crossovers head coach Kungfu Reyes.
Ara Galang made waves in her debut for Chery Tiggo with 12 points including a block and two service aces in just two sets of action.
Mylene Paat added 11 points on a very efficient clip of 11-of-17 from spikes, while Aby Maraño had six points in two sets as well.
All 14 Crossovers were fielded in and were able to score at least a point except the two liberos Buding Duremdes and Jen Nierva, who had nine excellent digs apiece.
Chery Tiggo’s next assignment will be another newcomer in Strong Group on Saturday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum at 2 p.m.
Jannine Navarro paced the Solar Spikers with six points while Syd Niegos and Patty Orendain chimed in five apiece.
Capital1 will have eight days of rest before plunging back on the taraflex come Feb. 29 against Farm Fresh at the same Pasig venue.
