PVL: Choco Mucho tightens grip on semis with sweep of Strong Group

Choco Mucho stepped closer to a semifinals berth after dominating the winless Strong Group in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Saturday at the Philsports Arena.

The Flying Titans grabbed the number one spot in the standings with a league-best 8-1 win-loss record and are now a win away from securing the first seat in the semifinals.

“Naging tuloy-tuloy ang mindset namin na every time kung sino ‘man ang makalaban namin, paghahandaan namin, nagiging resulta yun. Napananalunan namin yung game na yun,” said Choco Mucho head coach Dante Alinsunurin.

“Kung sino man ang ipasok na nabigyan ng pagkakataon na maka-score.”

Royse Tubino had her best game in a Flying Titans uniform, scoring 17 points on 15 attacks and two blocks.

She continues to fill in for starting opposite spiker Kat Tolentino, who missed her fourth consecutive game due to an auditory condition.

Reigning MVP Sisi Rondina had a field day, tallying 17 points on 14 attacks, two blocks, and one ace to go along with eight excellent digs. Isa Molde had eight points for Choco Mucho.

Meanwhile, middle blockers Maddie Madayag and Maika Oortiz each contributed five points.

The Flying Titans flexed their might in almost every scoring category, tallying 48 attacks, 11 kill blocks, and four service aces.

On the other hand, the Athletics only managed to secure 29 hits, two blocks, and one ace in the 73-minute contest.

Choco Mucho will try to seal its spot in the postseason against sister team Creamline on Thursday, 6:00 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
