In their usual glitzy opening ceremony, the Philippine Superliga highlighted the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team to kick off the Chooks-to-Go Invitational Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The PSL paraded all participating teams.
Last to come down the Big Dome’s rafters were the national team pool members from the different PSL clubs, garbed in traditional Indonesian clothes – coinciding with the opening day’s theme.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. president Joey Romasanta emphasized the importance of the national team’s participation as a guest team in the Invitational Cup, and urged the local volleyball fans to support the squad.
With the national team looking to make a return to the Asian Games after a near 39-year absence in the continental meet, the LVPI seeks to capitalize on the rise of volleyball locally to catapult the Philippines back to international competency.
“This is going to be a hard undertaking for the women’s national team. Sana maintindihan nating mga kababayan ang sakripisyo na gagawin ng mga manlalaro natin,” Romasanta said.
The PWNVT will face six of the club teams in the tournament. This will serve as the team’s tune-up games for the upcoming continental meet.
