Pressure sparks greatness for Bella Belen

Top overall pick Bella Belen made a stunning statement in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, delivering her best professional performance to carry Capital1 past ZUS Coffee, 25-17, 25-16, 15-25, 25-19, on Tuesday night at the Filoil Centre.

The three-time UAAP MVP took over in the fourth set, leading the Solar Spikers’ charge to overturn a 13-17 deficit and secure the win. Belen finished with 26 points on 24 attacks and two service aces, while also contributing 16 excellent digs and seven excellent receptions in an hour and 47-minute contest.

“Syempre, I’m very happy kasi napanalo po namin ‘yung game,” Belen said when asked about her performance.

Despite the impressive stats, she insisted she wasn’t focused on personal milestones. She admitted she didn’t even notice the numbers after the match, explaining that her main goal was to help her team win by doing her job on both ends of the court.

“Siguro po inisip ko nalang kung paano pa ako makakapag-contribute pa sa team since may chance na kaming mapanalo yung game eh. So parang now or never na for us kasi pag hindi kami- like, nag-all out pa that set pero pa silang chance na makakuha samin,” Belen said.

Facing a late deficit with ZUS Coffee threatening a fifth set, Belen spearheaded a 9-0 run, including four powerful attacks that flipped the score from 13-17 to 22-17. Even as the Thunderbelles briefly fought back, the 23-year-old remained unstoppable, delivering back-to-back kills to seal the win for Capital1.

Belen was quick to credit her teammates for the standout performance, noting that their support on both offense and defense allowed her to play freely and contribute where the team needed her most.

“Hindi ko naman magagawa ‘yung without the help of my teammates, syempre. And ayun, hindi ko rin naman like ginoal ‘yung ganun karami. Sabi ko lang talaga kailangan kong gawin ‘yung trabaho ko as a player, kung ano ‘yung kailangan kong i-contribute,” she said.

“So, yun lang yung inisip ko, kung ano pa yung pwede kong gawin kasi yung teammates ko ginagawa nila yung trabaho nila and kailangan ko rin gawin yung trabaho ko as a player.”
