Prajanchai dethrones Sam-A as N Sang makes successful ONE return

It was an eventful night at ONE: Battleground, which saw the crowning of a new king in ONE Super Series Muay Thai and the successful return of a former World Champion.

Prajanchai PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym had one of the best debuts in ONE history as he jumped onto the global stage by snatching away the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title from the legendary Sam-A Gaiyangdahao on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Known as one of the best Muay Thai stars in the Thai circuit, Prajanchai quickly introduced himself to a wider audience by displaying his impressive hands to combat Sam-A’s kicks.

A huge right hand from Prajanchai near the end of the first round made the biggest difference. He sent the former two-sport World Champion reeling to the canvas.

Gaining confidence from scoring the knockdown, Prajanchai looked comfortable unleashing his boxing. He used his jab as a weapon to size up his opponent while occasionally landing combinations to score on the Evolve MMA star.

Sam-A did not go down without a fight though. He looked energized in the championship rounds, taking control of the match with his left hands and kicks. However, the early knockdown and the work by Prajanchai was enough for two of the three judges to award the latter a majority decision.

In the co-main event, Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang delivered a stunning performance. He scored a first-round knockout win over Leandro “Wolf” Ataides in their 95.8 kilogram catchweight bout.

“The Burmese Python” turned the heat on early as he attacked with bad intentions. He threw heavy combinations to startle the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

While Ataides was game to engage, it wasn’t a smart tactic for him since Aung La N Sang simply wasn’t going to be denied.

The Sanford MMA athlete made Ataides pay the moment they stood up, as he unleashed a jaw-dropping eight-punch combination. It then culminated in a solid right hook to the jaw to end the night for the Brazilian at the 3:45 mark of the first round.

With the win, Aung La N Sang proved that he is far from done. Now, he looks primed for another reign in the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.

ONE returns to action with the previously recorded ONE: BATTLEGROUND II on 13 August, when Eduard “Landslide” Folayang faces Zhang “The Warrior” Lipeng in the main event.
