Roger Gorayeb will no longer be the head coach of PLDT Home Fibr come the 2022 Premier Volleyball League season.
Gorayeb and the team’s management have amicably parted ways as the champion mentor was no longer renewed by the team.
“Wala na ako sa PLDT but still very grateful ako sa kompanya,” he told Tiebreaker Times.
Back in 2013, Gorayeb was tapped by PLDT to be the head coach of their MVP Olympics team.
He was then promoted to coach the Speed Boosters team in the Philippine Superliga, before moving to the Shakey’s V-League to mentor the star-studded Ultra Fast Hitters.
Under Gorayeb’s watch, PLDT won the 2015 Open and Reinforced Conference in the V-League.
Gorayeb also coached the PLDT-backed Philippine Women’s Under-23 Volleyball Team in the 2015 Asian Championships. There, he steered the squad to a respectable seventh place finish.
After the PLDT team disbanded, he was once again called up by the MVP Group in 2018, this time to coach the PayMaya High Flyers.
PLDT then revived its volleyball team in the PSL in 2019 before moving back home to the PVL last year.
“Very grateful ako sa PLDT and memorable talaga yung last eight years,” he said.
“Kahit nung nagkasakit at parang mamamatay na ako nung 2019, hindi nila ako pinabayaan. Talagang nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila,” continued Gorayeb, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma two years ago.
During the 2021 Open Conference, PLDT finished in seventh place with a 3-6 standing.
The Power Hitters are set to name a new head coach in the coming days.
