Looking to sustain the momentum of the men’s side, the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association will send a crack squad to the 2023 BFA Women’s Asian Cup which will take place from May 26 to June 2 in Hong Kong.
The team will be composed of UAAP softball stars who have also been training with the national baseball team over the last few months.
Composing the squad are Diana Balderama, Helga Campos, Shyla Celis, Genesis Degollacion, Mharnie Dela Cruz, Dharlene Dolleton, Madelene Domaug, Martine Francisco, Remilie Herrero, Jojielyn Lim, May Mahinay, Erika Olfato, Nicole Padasas, Meann Ramos, Veronica Santiago, Jenifer Singh, Aila Subaldo, and Esmeralda Tayag.
Reinforcing the squad are Fil-Am Isabella Fong and Fil-Canadian Alexandra Sy.
The team is coached by Egay delos Reyes of National University.
The Philippines is slotted in Group B along with Japan, Korea, and the second survivor of the qualifying draw.
The Philippines take on the qualifier on May 26, Japan on the 27th, and Korea on the 28th.
The top two teams will advance to the super round.
Back in 2019, the Philippines finished in third place after beating China in the bronze match, 11-1. Japan is the defending champion after beating Chinese-Taipei.
