After a failed bid to host the 2019 FIBA World Cup, the Philippines is not giving up on its dreams of hosting a World Cup. This time around, the country found allies in Japan and Indonesia.
FIBA announced Thursday afternoon the shortlist of candidates in the running to host the 2023 World Cup. And for Asia, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas are teaming up with Perbasi of Indonesia and the Japanese Basketball Association to produce one bid.
European countries Russia and Turkey submitted their single-host bids as well while Argentina and Uruguay are looking to be co-hosts.
Deadline of hosting applications for the tournament is set at August, 2017.
Over the coming months, each candidate’s parties and stakeholders have the opportunity to meet with FIBA representatives for a workshop during which all potential aspects of the bid, hosting requirements and legacy elements will be discussed jointly.
