Philip Delarmino dominated RMF’s Alexander Abramov in all the rounds, winning the senior male elite minus-75 kg gold in the 2021 IFMA World Muaythai Championships, Saturday in Phuket, Thailand.
The 31-year-old standout bested the Russian Abramov on points, 30-27, to take his first-ever world title, shaking off rust since his last competition as the Southeast Asian Games champion.
Delarmino earlier stopped India’s Laishram Bidyachandra Singh in two rounds, before taking down Javad Vahid Reza of Sweden on points in the quarterfinal.
He then moved on to the final with a 29-28 win over Kazakhstan’s Almaz Sarsembekov. Delarmino had the first two rounds in the bag, but had to fend off a major mistake to eventually deal the Kazakh the defeat and moved on to the gold medal match himself.
Two under-23 upstarts added bronzes into the medal haul for Team Bagsik as Islay Bomagao and Rudzma Abubakar reached the semifinals of both the u-23 female elite minus-45 and minus-48 kg, respectively.
