Patrick Reichelt, Bienve Maranon score braces as Ceres demolish Ilocos, 5-1
If Ilocos United earned themselves a 1-1 draw a few days ago against powerhouse Ceres Negros, then yesterday’s match brought them back to earth, as the Bacolod side came up with a 5-1 away victory at the Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.
Bienvenido Maranon provided two assists for Patrick Reichelt, who scored in the 29th and 58th minutes to hand Ceres a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Although down 0-2, Chima Uzoka capitalized on a scramble in the Ceres box to give the home side hope in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately for Uzoka, that goal was as good as it got for him and his teammates, as Kevin Ingreso turned the ball in 10 minutes later to restore Negros’ two-goal cushion.
With only seven minutes remaining, Ilocos’ John Kanayama was given a red card for continuously talking to the referee. In the final minutes of the game, Maranon finally got on the scoresheet with a header and a Reichelt assist to seal a 5-1 win.
Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic opined, “It was a very tough game because, if you think about it, we were playing for nothing. We’re just playing to reach the 28 games. It’s a big problem to play these games.”
Ceres now move to a point behind league leaders Meralco Manila with 56 points, while Ilocos are bottom with nine points.
Takumi Uesato hattrick leads JPV rampage over Davao, 6-3
The day’s other game saw JPV-Marikina rout Davao Aguilas FC, 6-3, in the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
Takumi Uesato’s first half brace set JPV on their way to victory with a 2-0 edge at halftime. Things became worse for Davao, as Ali Mahmoud and Takashi Odawara struck in the 47th and 49nd minutes respectively.
Angel Guirado then pulled one back three minutes after to make it 4-1, but Uesato completed his hattrick in the 57th minute to restore JPV’s four-goal lead.
Uesato’s third goal effectively killed off any chance of a Davao comeback. Phil Younghusband scored in the 76th minute to make it 5-2. Stoppage time goals from Marikina’s Satoshi Otomo and Davao’s Harrison Sawyer capped off a 6-3 victory for Dan Padernal’s men.
The result was JPV’s ninth win of the season that gave them 32 points in 6th place, while Davao had to live with their fourteenth loss as they remain in 7th place with 18 points.
