PFF’s Araneta takes FIFA Council seat


In light of the breakthrough performance of the Philippine Women’s Football Team and the successful opening of the Philippines Football League season, the country has one more reason to celebrate for the beautiful game.

Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta has earned a post at the Fédération Internationale de Football Associations (FIFA) Council, the supervising body of the sport’s international federation.

Araneta was one of the three male members recently elected by acclamation by the Asian Football Confederation in its Congress currently being held in Bahrain. The others are Zhang Jian from the People’s Republic of China and Chung Mong Gyu from the Republic of Korea.
