Petro Gazz flexes might over Perlas, remains at solo third in PVL Open

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Petro Gazz’s superb net defense led by Ria Meneses powered its three-set annihilation of Perlas, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17, in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center, Friday evening.

The win upped Petro Gazz’s slate to 4-1.

Through the efforts of Grethcel Soltones and Ria Meneses, the Angels burst to a nine-point, 19-10 advantage after the second technical timeout of the match-clinching third set.

Perlas managed to cut the lead to seven points, 14-21. Then a Jessey De Leon hit followed by an attack error from Nicole Tianzon put Petro Gazz at 23.

Jerrili Malabanan delivered an ace to place the Angels at match-point, but Chery Nunag kept Perlas alive with a kill.

Soltones and Ivy Perez committed two consecutive errors before the former hammered down the lethal blow, 25-17.

Petro Gazz took a 25-17 first-set win. They then took the second set via a 25-8 decision for the 2-0 lead.

Perlas clinched its breakthrough win yesterday against PLDT, but today fell to a 1-3 standing.

The league has yet to announce the updated schedules for next week as of posting time.
