The NCAA opened its 94th season with a lavish ceremony on Saturday afternoon at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, this season’s hosts, vowed to bring the league to UnParalled Heights through Sports Development.
“The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is very honored to host this 94th NCAA season,” said NCAA Season 94 president Anton Tamayo. “We are delighted to spearhead various sports events and work together with the other schools to bring the NCAA fans another memorable season.
“This year’s theme is UnParalled Heights through Sports Development. This echoes the NCAA’s commitment to develop sports in the country. Sports development transcends beyond the physical aspects of sports. It also involves developing character and honing leadership skills. Moreover, sports has a way of bringing people together and bring change.”
The Seniors and Juniors basketball teams from Perpetual Help, San Beda University, Arellano University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, College of Saint Benilde, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Jose Rizal University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Mapua University, and San Sebastian College-Recoletos were paraded afterwards, with Radge Tongco leading the oath of sportsmanship.
San Beda University were also awarded the NCAA Season 93 Seniors and Juniors General Championships.
The league opens with a twin-header.
In the first game, defending champions Red Lions take on host Altas. This will be followed by the Pirates facing the Golden Stags.
“Let the games begin,” said Tamayo.
