CamSur and Iriga City clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the National Basketball League (NBL) Season 2 after winning over separate foes last Saturday at the Botolan Peoples Plaza in Botolan, Zambales.
The Express defeated the Imus Bandila, 81-76, and the Oragons won over the Zambales Converge Fiber X Men, 73-71, in their knockout matches to seal a place in the quarterfinal round to be played on Sunday at the Hagonoy Sports Complex in Taguig City.
Camsur will face Laguna, and Iriga City will battle Taguig in the quarterfinals, but their opponents will have a twice-to-beat advantage in the series.
Jonathan Del Rosario scored 19 points and hit five three-point shots including the go-ahead triple that put the Express ahead, 76-74, with 1:07 left in the game.
Del Rosario hit another three-pointer to increase the lead to five points with 57 seconds remaining and put the game away.
Terence Tumalip had 20 points, and AJ Perea fired 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists for the Express in the match against the Bandila.
Perea scored 10 points in the final period including a jumper that gave the Oragons a 68-63 lead.
